Educated by Tara Westover

Synopsis: Testimony of being raised by Mormon faith

Writing Style: Memoirish, Novel-like.

Pacing: Moderately Fast.

Personal Highlights: The flow and pacing and storytelling…and quotes most of all, made Tara’s story read like a novel. Right away I related to ‘Grandma-down-the-hill’…and ‘Grandma-over-in-town’ as well.

Overall, many will root for Tara. While her parents came across as a paradoxical mix of loving and demanding, the mind control addressed throughout really works the senses. One of my favorite spots was Tara learning, and perhaps taming, and riding them wild horses. Adrenalin rush there for sure. Of course too, Tara's eventual experiences in school, particularly her describing how she could feel the logic and sense of math problems’ power to bestow order and symmetry but couldn’t get beyond this gateway to unlock its secrets to law and reason was an interesting segue, similar to that one conversation with Dr. Kerry. “She’d rather be there serving dinner, than eating it.” Deep, and moving. Just an overall phenomenally powerful memoir. Highly recommended. Read Hardcopy 2018 copyright edition.
