CONNIE by Connie Chung
Writing Style: Quietly Passionate. Reflective. Old-school Journalistic.
Pacing: Fast.
Personal Highlights: Soon as this one came out, Yes Ma’am, I grabbed a copy! As a child I so admired journalists…Connie Chung among the most respected. She cites her innate code of conduct being tethered to Chinese culture, raised on old-school values… indomitable tenants lifting this titillating reading experience off the page. I loved how she assessed …and addressed her male peers. She didn't balk or complain but stood her ground. She learned the ropes... rolled up her sleeves and played the game. “I could see sperm swimming in the white of his eyes…” The polite “China doll’s” spunk was simply fascinating. I mean, like gosh dang-it! What I would’ve done to be that teller!!!
There is so much to Connie; the way she narrates what it was like being one of so few females in an industry during a day when “just the facts ma'am” ruled, and professional women wore skirts *mostly* to the knees, and salaries didn’t surge until she proved her chops. From her salt of the earth view of ‘slopadocumentaries’… to the ‘story of Connies’ this memoir did not disappoint. What a great read! Highly recommended. Read hard copy 2024 copyright edition.
