Share My Life by KEM

Synopsis:
Personal testimony of an American R&B singer/songwriter.

Writing Style: Soft. Sensitive. Straightforward.

Pacing: Moderate

Personal Highlights: Kim’s story (read in its entirety) makes it easy to see the roots of his music. His early feelings about friendships, love, sex and the normal pre-puberty insecurities such as wanting to be taller, seemed to meld under the same umbrella as learning to respect his step-father's guidance while growing up close to his grandmother whose faith was rooted in Pentecostal principles. This energy followed him through life, albeit maturing as he aged, becoming the ‘Kemistry’ behind Kem. Simply put, the way this story is laid out is beautiful, perfectly encapsulating the quote attributed to Carl Jung; “Who looks outside, dreams; Who looks inside, awakes.”

Other personal favorites was his going to work at the Ritz. His describing how servicing others in that high end environment made him feel was just musical. Admittedly however, I couldn’t wait to read how he and Erica became one, and why. Of course there was a little reading between the lines, which hands down was as well lyrically expressed!

Overall, words that come to mind when thinking of Kem's music and life; cerebral…soulful…sensitive… and a little melancholy. ‘I Can’t stop loving you’ …’Love Calls’ …’Nobody’ …and ‘Promise to Love’ are my all time favorite Kem songs. Highly recommended. Read hardback copyright 2023 edition.
