Top Billin’ by Bill Bellamy

Synopsis:
Personal testimonies of a celebrity American Comedian and Actor

Writing Style: Direct. Straightforward. Entertaining.

Pacing: FAST!

Personal Highlights: As Bellamy pointed out in his memoir, I was among the group not watching MTV and thus not very familiar with his work. This is what amazed me, cursorily thinking this was going to be a good book. I was spot on!

What personally stood out was the way Bellamy wrapped his thoughts around his parents reaction to a gift he gave them. After coming up in an era of neighborhood watchers… no back talk…radiators…concrete…and a familiar struggle where parents encouraged their children to stay out of the streets, go to college and make something out of their lives... subliminally frames his entire story, revealing a surreal irony in his parents response to his having checked all the boxes.

Overall I enjoyed this bustin’ moves type writing testimony. The humor is entertaining and delightful. Respected his views, especially how he represented himself. Passionate. Articulate. Well-dressed. Humbled…and well… handsome and talent was his blessing. And Booty Call!?! So now I know who coined the phrase.

Another big inviting spot was that pivotal moment when he knew, taking that leap of faith betting on himself. Applause here!!! I so related, even if (perhaps credit to his positive vibes), his come up story seemed ‘a lot less potholed’ than others. There is so much in this fiercely paced memoir. I mean, did he even need to insert that Janet interview!?! Hilarious!  And naming that one chapter, ‘ADORE’…by Prince? Oh man! Couldn’t put the book down. I loved it. Highly recommended. Read hardback copyright 2023 edition.
