Sure, I'll Be Your Black Friend by Ben Philippe
Synopsis: A digest of satirical anecdotes
Writing Style: Satirical. Entertaining.
Pacing: Moderate
Personal Highlights: Although the tongue-in-cheek narratives seemed suited for a select audience, evidenced by the title, beneath the cover is a wide berth of content suitable for anyone who enjoys contemporary satire. The opening pulled me in. Quickly I became fixed on the observations and dialogues between young people. Ben's childhood read unique. Enjoyed the Mia romance. It read novel-like. Lots of showy metaphors, heavy on the satire too. Morgan, I decided, was a favorite. Jolene's quip about her mom's brutal prenup, so humorous. And the POTUS comment, actually that entire conversation, along with the roommate scuffle, buttressed the overall tone of this memoir. And is that Fit-ty or Fiddy? Ha! Overall, a diverting collection of stories.
