All But My Life by Gerda Weissmann Klein
Synopsis: The personal account of a Holocaust Survivor.
Writing Style: Warm. Passionate.
Pacing: Moderate.
Personal Highlights:
As challenging as Gerda’s memoir was to read, and as many similarities to other accounts already told and published about the Holocaust, it nevertheless was incredibly hard to put this book down. Perhaps it was the hope she, and her family held, hoping things would get better. Maybe it was the quixotic relationship she shared with Abek. Or just maybe it was the way she relayed her story… serene, well-paced, almost novel-like. Whatever it was, this story has an amazing magnetic pull. Overall the story is quite detailed, very passionate, and certainly unforgettable. Highly recommended.
