Synopsis: The personal reflections of a young South Afrikaans girl.
Writing Style: Soft, Indulgent, Straightforward.
Pacing: Moderate.
Personal Highlights: Jennifer recollects what living in South Africa, from the age 3 ½ to 9, as a sensitive child was like. For as short and quick and easy an read, this memoir does have teeth. The relationship she shared with her brother and grandmother made for delightful reading, in comparison to the internal turmoil she described explaining the relationship with her mother, in particular, and both parents in general. What brings all full circle was the privileged environment she was raised in, along with the music class incident and the snake bite episode; two main convincing events that demonstrated how much her mother... and father... truly cared about her well-being...and the well-being of her siblings.
