The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin

Synopsis: A celebrated classic. A spiritual sophisticated romp on racism.

Writing Style: Beautiful. Deep. Classic.

Pacing: Fast.

Personal Highlights: Late to reading a book published a long time ago, and probably has been read by everyone but me, it nonetheless surprised me by not only how much I deeply related to Baldwin’s deliberations but how refreshing I found his perspectives. The writing, not too surprising was old school fantastic. I pine for this type satire. Not so loud but audible enough to find him truly likable. However, this being a very succinct narrative I’ll leap ahead to share my personal favorite; the dinner with the Honorable Elijah Muhammad! What a beautiful replay of that dinner, the spot where I cried…and likely the feeling that incentivized many who felt the same energy I read, to seek the temple. Who doesn’t want to feel that type of unconditional belonging? So powerfully written, which includes the ending (of said dinner) where I couldn’t help but laugh, effecting the overall message...or moreso moral to his message. Oh man, what a beautiful book. Highly recommended. Read soft-copy, copyright 1962, 1963/copyright renewed 1990/1991.
