CFI! The Book by Alex Stone
Synopsis: The trials and tribulations of teaching rookies to fly planes.
Writing Style: Satirical. Off the cuff. To the point.
Pacing: Fast.
Personal Highlights: I read Alex’s first book, ‘Hauling Checks’ years ago. So naturally when I saw his name on another book with a similar familiar synopsis, I decided to buy a copy. Yep, same funny and similar shorts. Wasn’t disappointed, though I did detect a little pull back if my memory is any good. Not sure since it was a decade ago since reading the other book.
At any rate Alex (the main character) is a flight instructor and works for a real character called Todd who, as described throughout this collection of short stories, is outrageously and dangerously hilarious!
There are other shady characters as well, both working for this flight school, and holey-moley, learning to fly at this place as well. From Todd to the life-long paying customers; Nelson, the young “no Inglese’ student, and of course George who finally soloed, and along with Alex’s satirical writing, I really enjoyed the stories. Favorites were the ‘Engine checklist; King James Version,’ ‘a day at the beach,’ ‘one thousand hours’ and oh my goodness, ‘worst nightmare’! Just an all around easy read, even if I spent 3 weeks tickled and shaking my head all in one. Great job again, Alex! Read softcopy 2018 copyright edition.
