Kicking & Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul, and Rock & Roll by Ann & Nancy Wilson, and Charles Cross

Between the lines of Kicking & Dreaming reads an unwritten deep profound sadness. This is not a bad thing, as this is where the passion in the music Ann and Nancy writes, plays, and sings are rooted. Some of the best soulful sounds come from this pain; the bittersweet highs and lows of being rock stars.

Aside from Dotes and `keeping it real' Lou, (Ann and Nancy's parents who are real treats throughout) along with the highs and highlights of an impressive music career, what I enjoyed most was the way their memories were shared. My favorite, the most fascinating part, was reading this serene tone often describing what I'm going to call very noisy events. I mean, TV's in hotels found at the bottom of pools (during some of these touring engagements) flowed across pages as if a morning zephyr was being described blowing through an open window. I loved that...

...this gentle, fairly genuine rock, given the breadth of other focuses...from forming a band, to the concerts and tours... family, relationships, the music industry, making music, other celebrity musicians, the inspiration radiated and lessons learned...just so much material is visited, and all through one harmonious vibe to the very end. A very nice way to spend a little down time.
